#GivingTuesday began in 2012 as an idea between the 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation. It received incredible media attention and within five short years has been adapted by hundreds of non-profit organizations. The hashtag #GivingTuesday was also created to raise awareness about the less fortunate and encourage people to give to charities.
